CULTIVATION OF INTELLECTUALS

During the early days, former President Chang Hang Hsueh-liang carried out the patriotic spirit of ¡°love of the University, the hometown, the motherland and human beings ¡° throughout the whole process of education. He emphasized that the purpose of the establishment of Northeastern University was ¡° to cultivate practical intellectuals and construct a new Northeast China to promote the modernization of the nation ¡° Well-known educators and scholars were invited to practice strict education and maintain the philosophy of a balanced development of wisdom , virtue , physical strength , collectivism and aesthetics. Factories for the University were begun to emphasize the combination of teaching and practice. The quality of education was widely recognized.

Since the beginning of the 1950s, the University has conscientiously followed the Party¡¯s principle of cultivation the highly qualified technical intellectuals who have socialist conscientiousness and a solid foundation of academic theory, and who are capable of working independently and have healthy bodies. To meet the requirements of the society and the state¡¯s economic construction, the University adopted the idea of ¡°strengthening the foundation, emphasizing the two wings (computer and foreign languages), and deepening the reform¡±. Fifty-eight excellent achievements of education reform won the national , provincial and ministerial awards. Through the introduction of disciplines, reconstruction of programs, and the continuous innovation of teaching contents and methods. Talented graduates with strong adaptability are popular in employee units.

NEU is recognized for its strict operation and administration. Faculty members work conscientiously to teach virtue and learning. Ambitious students study diligently. A series of rules and systems are continually improved to encourage students¡¯ hard work, such as ¡°selection of genius students¡±, ¡°survival-of ¨Cthe fittest¡±, ¡°scholarship¡±, ¡°compound credits¡±, ¡° dual academic degrees¡±, ¡°examination-free admission of genius undergraduates for advanced degrees¡±, ¡°continuous studies of bachelor¡¯s and master¡¯s degrees¡±, ¡° continuous studies of master¡¯s and doctoral degrees¡± and ¡°advanced studies of doctoral degrees¡±.
