SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

As a national strategic university, Northeast University is a center of both education and research, undertaking the task of promoting the development of science and technology. Presently, a powerful research force has been formed by over 1,000 faculty, including 500 full-time researchers, and 1,500 masterĄ¯s and doctoral candidates who are organized into 28 research institutes. This competitive research group with complete disciplines is well constructed. Working at technically advanced laboratories equipped with modern facilities, and at large-scale and middle-size enterprises, they undertake national key projects and enterprisesĄ¯ technical problems.

Since 1986, the University has undertaken 6,531 research projects from the National 863 High Tech Project, the national Natural Science Foundation, the National Doctoral Programs Fund, and other national key research projects, international cooperative projects, and community and enterprise research projects. Among the completed research projects, 545 have been awarded prizes at international, national, provincial or ministerial levels and 216 have been granted patents. Since 1985, 14,600 academic papers and 568 academic works and textbooks have been published, including 1,200 papers presented in well-known foreign periodicals. NEU provides the post of chairman of Chinese University Association of science and Technology. Eighty-two associations at different levels are affiliated with the University, and over 10 domestic or international conferences are Spaniard or organized by the University each year. More than 500 faculty members serve as members of international academic associations and as directors or higher titles of domestic associations.

In the comprehensive research power table between 1991 and 1992, NEU ranked eleventh among the 40 national strategic universities. NEU was ranked first in terms of quantity of technological achievement transfer during the Eighth Five Year Plan (1991-1995) among universities and colleges in the nation
